According to Mr.
Leong Lik Thong, the Vice Chairman of International Dragon & Lion
Dance Federation, this event symbolises the most honourable glory in
the lion dance aspect and the very first step into the international
platform. Alongside, this national competition has become a “world
brand” after the strong support from Genting Group and enhancement
from the federation throughout the years.
He also added that
the great response from the contestants proves the spirit of this
sport has been heightened from time to time. Nowadays, lion dance is
not only meant for cultural performance, it is a common sport event
indeed. Most significantly, Chinese communities from England, Hong
Kong, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore and many other countries even
requested for reservation from the federation, in order to take part
and share experiences in this extravagant event. Mr. Leong also said
“In tandem, this notable event is able to enhance the growth of
tourism and economy in Malaysia.”
Furthermore, Mr. H.
P. Siow, the committee member of the 13th National Lion Dance
Championship 2007 and judge of International Dragon & Lion Dance
Federation pointed that the difficulty level of the lion dance will
increase as the years go by. In addition, the outstanding team from
this championship will stand a chance to take part in the World Lion
Dance Championship. Thus, each team must be well-prepared to grab
this golden opportunity! Mr. Siow noted, “International Dragon &
Lion Dance Federation will also undergo strict preliminary selection
before any competition starts, so as to guarantee the consistency of
the competing level each year.”
He also emphasised
that the federation will also plan to synchronise all the lion dance
performances as well as competitions, in order to enhance the
improvement every now and then. Also, it is to make sure this
Chinese cultural performance continues to shine its best in the
future!
